Proskurivska, 1. Previously, the house was two-story, it was built in the late 19th century by Proskuriv citizen Solomon Barak on the proceeds from the sale of … carbonated water. The people of Proskuriv even called him “the king of mineral waters”. Solomon Barak opened a shop for carbonated drinks and confectionery on the ground floor, where in addition to water, visitors could buy buns, pies, bagels, as well as biscuits and cakes from the famous confectioner Francois.
Proskurivska, 2. The three-story house on the corner of Svobody Street was built at the end of the 19th century. Its architectural style combines patterned brick style with elements of Neo-Renaissance and Art Nouveau. Originally the third floor looked like a pretty attic, but in the early 1970s it was rebuilt as a regular floor. Silva Hotel was once located on the second floor and on the attic. Bakery, Furniture Shop-Salon, brush workshop and one of the oldest photo salons in the city of Hersh Holovanevskyi, opened in 1894, were on the first floor.
Proskurivska, 3. The building is typical for Proskuriv in the late 19th – early 20th centuries and has value as a part of the central street historic environment. It was built in the late 19th century as an apartment house and belonged to Abram Zilberman. His daughter, Khaya Abramivna, has been practicing dentistry since 1903 and had her own office on the ground floor – she was the first woman-dentist of the city! Initially, the house was two-story and had interesting decorative elements, but later the third floor was added to it.
Proskurivska, 7. The local merchant Vasyl Zhuravliov made a revolution in the business of Proskuriv, when in 1880 he founded the first grocery store of the European style in the city. A wide selection of domestic and imported groceries and food products, the opportunity to borrow products and make orders, home delivery and tasting – all of this was a miracle for the provincial Proskuriv. At the beginning of the 20th century, Zhuravliov’s daughter Vira became the owner of the grocery store, and a sign “Zhuravliova’s Store”, already well known to the citizens of Proskuriv, appeared above the entrance.
Proskurivska, 13. In 1890 Ludwig Derevoyed completed the construction of new three-story building, the first floor of which was used as pharmacy, which became the best in the city. The establishment had a premise for pharmaceutical work and a laboratory, equipped with the latest trends in science and technology, as well as an ice-room for storing drugs in the cold. Semi-basement of the house was rented by Rhine Wine Cellar, upper floors were rented by various institutions and tenants. Later, after the change of many owners, the house underwent several renovations and alterations (the fourth floor was added), nevertheless retained original architecture.
Proskurivska, 17. The house was built in the late 19th century and combines the pattern of brick style with elements of Neo-Renaissance and Art Nouveau. Its owner, merchant of manufactured goods Israel Tolpin, owned several shops in the city. It was an apartment house, its facade is richly decorated with brick details. In Soviet times the building was nationalized, usually the first floor was used for shops, whereas various institutions were located on the second floor.
Proskurivska, 18. In 1910 the best in the city Modern Illusion (cinema hall) began to operate on the ground floor of the building. In the evening it all shone with the lights of electric lamps, and its rooms were particularly sophisticated. Small orchestra played during films, the auditorium had 200 seats. If you look closely at the decoration of the building, you can see… stucco dragons! This is the only building in Proskuriv that has such a décor! Today at this address there is located the Khmelnytskyi Music School №1 named after Mykola Mozhovyi.
Proskurivska, 26. The house is an original example of construction from the early 20th century and has value as a part of the city central street historical environment. It was built in the early twentieth century in Art Nouveau style with elements of Neo-Renaissance. After the establishment of Soviet power (late 1920s) it was nationalized and transferred to the city ownership. In the twentieth century, the first floor was occupied by shops, the second – by administrative institutions. In the 2000s the attic floor was added.
Proskurivska, 33. The house was built in 1897, there was Еру Peterburzkyi Hotel – one of the best in the city. Among the hotel guests there were many famous people. In the autumn of 1905, the manager of the first folk traveling exhibitions Viacheslav Rozvadovskyi stayed at the hotel. The art exhibition was held in front of the hotel, in one of the city garden premises. Among the paintings, there were works by Rozvadovskyi, Repin, Kuindzhi, Makushenko, Bohdanov-Bielskyi, Roerich. At the time such exhibition became a real event in cultural life for Proskuriv.
Proskurivska, 37. The house was built in the early twentieth century, it had two floors and beautifully decorated brick-style facade. The city general hospital and the sanitary hygiene store were located here for some time. In the early 1960s the premises were transferred to the medical school, for the needs of which it was soon completely rebuilt – two floors were added and tiled, the interior was replanned. In 2007 the medical school was renamed into Khmelnytskyi Basic Medical College.
