In 1929 in Proskuriv (nowadays Khmelnytskyi) the first institution of a museum type, the Museum of Sanitary Culture was organized, from which in 1933 separated as an independent legal entity «Local History Museum».
Nowadays Khmelnytskyi Regional Museum of Local History is situated in an elegant small 3-storey building near the center of Khmelnytskyi and has about 80,000 different exhibits. For instance: rare furniture, things, awards, jewelry, clothing and a lot of exclusive. The museum is most proud of its collection of weapons, which is one of the largest in Ukraine. The collection of porcelain is no less numerous. All products are unique and were created at the Polonskyi porcelain factory of the Khmelnytskyi region. They were produced not in series, but in unique samples. The collection has many author’s works.
