Proskurivska street is the main city street that has existed since Ploskyriv’s beginning as part of the old postal route to Letychiv. After the Emperor Oleksander I in 1824 approved the master plan for the town, the street received the name Oleksandrivska. Right after the establishment of the Soviet government it was renamed to October 25 Street to honor the October Revolution in 1917. In 1985 the street was renamed after Lenin but in 1991 this was changed and the central street received the current name Proskurivska Street.
The street starts at the intersection with Soborna Street which is also one of the oldest streets in the city and received its name from the Collegiate Church of Nativity (built in 1835 -37). At the beginning of Proskurivska Street there are many old buildings from the late 19th – early 20th centuries.
In the early 20th century at 1, Proskurivska Street, was S. Barak s apartment house, a well-known producer of mineral carbonated drinks. On the first floor of his apartment was a shop of carbonated drinks and confectionery. Next door was one of the best clothing stores in the city owned by L.Rosenbaum.
At 2, Proskurivska Street, is a three-story brick building, constructed in the late 19th century with elements of Neo-Renaissance and Art Nouveau. The upper stories were occupied by Hotel “Silva” and on the first floor was the bakery “Bulochna”, a furniture store, a brush workshop, and the photo shop of merchant Holovanevskyi. This photo shop was one of the oldest in the town and opened in 1894.
At 6, Proskurivska Street, was the home of the dentist L.Khaselev which was built in 1898. Across the street in the red brick building lived the Zhuravlevs who were merchants (7, Proskurivska Street.), which in the early 20th century was the best deli in Proskuriv.
