The first historical monument to Bohdan Khmelnytskyi was erected in 1955. It depicts the hetman in service, holding in his right hand bent to chest a mace, that is a symbol of state power. The authors are national artists of Ukraine: sculptors M. K. Vronskyi, O. Oliynyk; architects Shetychynskyi, O. Sydorenko.
